SLOW JOURNEY RAMP
The Slow Journey Ramp is part of a project located in Lower Marsh, London, which focuses on the cohabitation of elderly people and students.
A main issue of the project is the accessibility to all areas. Accordingly to a number of elderly people living in the processed buildings, a ramp at the backyard is constructed. The ramp focuses on the needs of elderly persons but also works as a threshold between street and buildings as well as the shops on the ground floor and basement and dwellings in the upper two floors.
It is equipped with several places to stop in order to take a break and having a chat with the neighbours. It also provides small terraces where the residents meet, sit togeather or plant some flowers or vegetables at the gardening spaces.
The former empty and unfriendly atmosphere of the backyards of the processed buildings turns into a lovely space to meet, relax and enjoy.
